Maca

Did you know maca is a root that belongs to the radish family?  It’s also known as Peruvian ginseng. This is one of those herbs where there is no known side effects but I always recommend starting in low doses and building yourself up. I like to add the powder to warm beverages and smoothies. Try starting with 1/2 a tsp and work your way up to 1 tbsp. You don’t want to throw your hormones out of whack! Rich in B vitamins, C and E as well as providing loads of calcium (better than a glass of milk) and don’t forget the zinc, iron, magnesium, phosphorus and much needed amino acids.  Maca is great for sexual function, mostly beneficial for the ladies and overlooked by men but it’s great for them too. Boosting libido and stamina not to mention endurance is great for everyone involved. It also has fantastic hormone balancing properties and is said to aid in fertility.  Having menstrual issues? Grab some maca powder. It’s known for its ability to reduce cramps, body pain, the dreaded hot flashes, mood swings (your husband, friends and co-workers will thank you for taking this) anxiety and depression. Did I mention mood swings? I figured I needed to mention that again.  I personally enjoy the boost of energy I get when I add it to my powerhouse latte, no coffee added.
